Title
GSM and UMTS overview for administrative personnel
Goal
The goal is to give the participants an understanding of the
GSM/UMTS network from an operator point of view. There is focus on a
practical understanding of a modern radio based digital
telecommunication network.
This covers both the economic, market and technical aspects.
After the course the participants will be able to participate in
communication with radio planners and other technical staff.
Targetgroup:
Administrative personnel that communicates with technical staff or should know the background of the business.

Course form:
There is a mix of classroom teaching and group solution of exercises.
Course description:
Basic GSM/UMTS. The history of mobile radio. Basic knowledge. Standardisation. Mobile market. Structure of the network. Call set-up. Handover, Mobile data. Radio planning and link budgets. Tele economy. Antennas and cable systems.
Exercises:
The exercise will demonstrate the concepts and give the participants an idea of what is involved in planning and running a modern digital radio based network.
Preparation:
We suggest, that before the course take place, there is meeting to discuss the detailed content, so that the course will get the maximum relevance for the participants.
Course language:
Danish or English as determined by the customer.
Necessary equipment:
PC and projector(XGA) for Powerpoint presentations. Blackboard or whiteboard . Overhead projector. Some limited photocopying may be needed.
